Scream, A Franchise Review.
The first movie of the Scream franchise is a great opening to a great series of movies. Billy Loomis (Skeet Ulrich) and Stu Macher (Matthew Lillard) turned into the infamous and iconic original Scream killers and were adored by many because of their looks. However, my favorite character is Gale Weathers (Courtney Cox), her character is one of the most underrated of the franchise. She solved and survived all the crimes committed in the movies she was in, and although she published them which brought grief and disappointment to the other characters — especially Dewey Riley (David Arquette), that is her job as a journalist. I don’t agree with her decision of exposing the victims, but she is a hell of a journalist — I might be biased because I am one as well.

My favorite movie from the franchise is Scream (1), I believe the original is unmatched. Most of the other movies are great, with an exception for Scream 4 that was my least favorite of the movies and, frankly, bad. I laughed the whole time because of how stupid some scenes were. However, Scream (5) picked it up and did the franchise the justice it deserved. I was especially excited for the addition of Jenna Ortega as Tara Carpenter into the franchise. She did amazing in both movies and made them that much more exciting to watch.

The main reason the series is even still running is because of the format they adopted of describing exactly what would happen in the movie and still making it surprising and exciting in the end. My favorite moments in the movies were the foreshadowing moments when, for example, in Scream (5) and Scream VI, Mindy Meeks-Martin (Jasmin Savoy Brown) foreshadowed the entire movie. This format makes the movie interactive and ironic/more enjoyable. Another thing I thought was clever was making the title of Scream (5), Scream because of the “return” of the original movie (Scream, or in the universe, Stab).

Finally, making Sam Carpenter (Melissa Barrera) Billy Loomis’ daughter was not in the least expected, but a great twist to the story. It was interesting to see the difference between them and Sam using her murderous urges for good. I would recommend the entire franchise to anyone interested in horror, it is a classic and a 100/10 (even Scream 4).
